Certificate of Origin
You need a certificate of origin when exporting goods out of the EU. The certificate is used to prove the country of origin of the goods. The certificate can be created digitally on the ClearView Trade-platform.
The certificate and when to use it
The certificate of origin must be used when you export to a country that is not a member of the EU’s Free Trade Agreement. When you send a shipment out of the EU, you must be able to prove where the goods come from. That’s where the certificate of origin comes in.
When you export within the EU, there is no need to use certificates of origin.
The certificate of origin very precisely describes where the consignment originates. In addition to the address of the sender- and recipient, the certificate of origin also contains information about the goods being exported. It specifies the goods as well as their quantity and weight.
Physical- or digital certificate
The certificate of origin can be used in both physical- and digital format. Many countries prefer to receive the digital certificate, as it is both easier to handle and more secure. The digital certificate is also easier to fill out and much quicker to prepare.
A certificate of origin must be stamped- and signed by a chamber of commerce before it can be used. The physical certificate must therefore be completed, printed, sent to the chamber of commerce, signed and stamped and then returned.
When you create the certificate digitally, it is sent directly to the chamber of commerce via the platform. The chamber can both sign- and stamp the certificate digitally. The digital certificate of origin can even be filled out automatically when creating an ERP integration on the platform.
